The Horrors are one of the few musical acts worth traveling past San Antonio for. They are possibly so good, they are worth traveling out of Texas for as well. I was so exited of the proximity of the concert I bought the tickets two months in advance and winced later at the thought of not hearing my favorite songs from their first CD Strange House.
To be honest, I was apprehensive of their follow up, Primary Colours, before the concert because I was blinded by the amazing garage sound of Strange House. I had put them on a pedestal in a box that disapproved of anything that didn't follow their formula of 3 minute loud, high energy, guitar driven songs. I couldn't imagine The Horrors taken a turn into a New Wave and heavily synthesized sound.
At the beginning of the concert I was kind of disappointed they didn't bring the same erratic energy that was Strange House. However, as they played Primary Colours, in its entirety, the crowd was held in a trance, with a just as strong intensity. They didn't need to rile the crowd into a epileptic rage as the did in their encore with their best from Strange House. Primary Colours invoked a different kind of reaction.
When I went to sleep after the concert, I couldn't get the mesmerizing keyboard of "Mirror's Image" out of my head; The music from Primary Colours is so intense it haunted my dreams. The day after the concert I had to buy the CD off of iTunes because I couldn't get the beats and rhythms out of my head. Buying the CD has only made this condition worse, not alleviated it.
One of the most amazing musical acts I've ever had the pleasure to almost asphyxiate in a crowd for and who don't have to work to create a stage presence; The Horrors are the stage presence. I am amazed of the two albums they have produced in the four years of their existence. I officially offer my blind faith to trust their brilliance as they continue to produce mind controlling music that won't allow me to think without having a repeating keyboard beat in my head.
