. . . .

I am not dead. This blog was just in a coma.
Tumblr is starting to look enticing.
Although, Tumblr is more for graphics and I'm more into words.
I'll think about it.

Need v. Want

Do you ever pause for a moment while you sit in your air controlled room, next to name brand clothes, in front of expensive electronics with internet and realize how luck you are. That when you say "I'm hungry, I'm going to die" that your exaggeration is something literal to someone else. That the clean water you leave running in your sink is something so pure, something some people have never seen or tasted.

These epiphanies hit me especially when I find myself in my 2 year old car, complaining that I have no tint or envying someone with a nicer car: I shouldn't be this selfish, it wouldn't be fair. Right now there is an elderly person out there sitting on a bench without shade at a bus route stop in the Laredo heat.

I am disgusted with myself by even thinking I am worse off, I need to remember to count my blessings more often. It's weird to know that in this world there are people with several sports cars, mansions, and savings accounts and yet there are also people without clean water or enough food. It's humbling to think of all the poverty there is in the world and the lack of basic necessities out there. In retrospect, I have the world, we all do.

Academic Competition

I am staring at the trophies I won in UIL; I earned these a year ago or two. I think I am going to throw them in the trash save for my first place trophy I won at Alexander and my district medals. I miss Literary Criticism and Editorial Writing: good memories.

Your mom is futile

"Writing in this blog is not futile. As I read my last post I laugh at my "cute" idea of getting organized and prepared for my 2nd semester of college. Currently, I've dug myself into an academic hole that I have a 3-day weekend to fix. I'll cut myself some slack: I'm human. However, I won't allow myself to be consumed with procrastination and apathy any longer. I literally can't afford it."

Live and Learn

My first semester of college is over and now I am recovering from finals with a skewed sleeping pattern. In retrospect, the perfectionist side of myself is berating me for my overall effort. The slacker in me is beaming with pride; a job well done. I'm proud of my A's in my more challenging classes, but my semi-decent grade in British Literature is NOT reflective of my knowledge, but of my effort.

I learned to the extent of academic hell my severe case of procrastination can get me into: I didn't pull all-nighters, instead, I didn't sleep for three days. Not consecutively, of course. In my last final on Friday, I had two coffees on an empty stomach and an unrested mind. I had the craziest caffeine induced jitters, I couldn't even concentrate and I needed to pee. I got a B.

Now all I can do is rethink next semester's "ANTI-procrastination" strategy to get things done; However, that is in the back of my mind right now. I've got a lot going on right now to deal with before we can talk about January 19th, 2010.

This Post is an Intervention

Forgive me blog for I have sinned. It has been almost a month since I last posted on my blogspot. However my time has been engaged with the time waster that is Farmville and blogging on a smaller scale via Twitter. I don't want to sound incredibly lazy, but Twitter is a godsend for lazy/busy people (one can be both!)

I'm usually not very competitive, but Farmville is another story; I'm competing with my friend to see who can move up the levels quicker. You'd think we could compete in a more productive way, like seeing who can keep up with their assigned readings? I don't know if it's only in my campus, but it's probably the biggest time waster for students since Myspace/Facebook. Honestly why are all these future teachers, nurses, lawyers, and garbage personnel so intrigued with a virtual farming game? Well, no one has explained the appeal of Hanna Montana or Ugg Boots to me either.

On the other hand, I am proud to say I have a twitter, at least now I do. Originally, I was skeptical because I saw too much over-sharing in tweets. Real names appear on their Twitter page and yet some still use it as a platform to flame others or to share TMI from last night. I've read tweets from people I farely know, but don't really"know" and some of them come across as "Trying too hard to be seen as the "party person" or as the "Overachiever with a drinking problem."

Well if someone read my tweets they'd probably think I was a bit of a space cadet; I usually post my daily achievements, random thoughts, or the days funniest remarks. I like reading my tweets a week later and laughing or cheering myself up with them. Twitter although constricting with its' 140 character limit makes it much easier to keep up with friends, It serves as its' own RSS feed, and I can continue with the positives like tweeting via text, but I'll stop at being able to keep up with friends.

Now that I think about, I need to get off the Twitter and off the Farmville and go do something worthy of a post. or a tweet. or a round of Farmville.
